In the Latvian mythology Ūsiņš is symbol of spring, prosperity and light. Ūsiņš takes care of horses and bees. 

This is one of the few Latvian gods which is proved by several authentic historic evidences. Summer starts with the Ūsiņš Day. Ūsiņš brings mellow grass to the fields and green leaves to the trees, therefore on the Ūsiņš Day the horses were brought to the pasture. Ūsiņš Day is on the same day as Jurģi on 23 April, which is the day of ancient Latvians moving from one living place to another.
